Every problem we encounter concerning relationships or personal growth ultimately roots itself in a despair and distrust in God. Clients teach me about what life is like. They are then gently directed to a pursuit of truth about themselves, how their ineffective life strategies can be changed in action and their spiritual despair should the process get to that level. This is not forced, and the client is free to rest in the process or drop the process without loss of positive regard.
