Statement: |
As a newly certified career coach, I am excited to be able to provide assistance in what I consider to be one of the most important areas of our lives! I understand the struggles and emotional toll that go along with searching for that "perfect" job and finally identifying what career would reflect your life purpose...I have been there! From a wanna-be actress/singer to a licensed professional counselor, I have explored many career paths and potential directions, and I believe that had I known then what I know now, I would have gotten to my destination sooner. But, with each step I took, I got closer and closer to finding that something that would feel right - coaching! Throughout my years providing psychotherapy, I discovered that I craved a more action-oriented approach to clients...talking is great and necessary, but it's the accompanying action that gives results! Also, I learned that I could concentrate on just helping people with their career issues. So many people feel unfulfilled and dissatisfied with what they do, and because many of us spend the majority of our time at work, I think that paying attention to those issues is critical. So, putting both passions together - career and action- I found career coaching.
My approach to coaching is a unique blend of counseling technique (active listening, reflection, and restatement) and coaching technique (active listening, asking powerful questions, active goal setting and identifying methods of achieving those goals). As your coach, I will meet you at your level, meaning that we will begin and end with the issues that you indicate as important. This process is all about you, so you set the agenda each session. Depending on your stated concern, I will tailor my approach with what best suits you.
To give you an overall "nutshell" explanation of what the process may look like, I have included all ingredients involved (in the form of the acronym S.U.M.M.I.T., which means "at the top"):
S - search (search within yourself and inventory your values, interests, skills, strengths, and all other relevant characteristics. May involve some assessments)
U - understand (understand the results of your search and set specific, quantifiable goals)
M - methods (identifying actions to help you reach your stated goals)
M - means (looking at the resources available that will help you in carrying out the methods. May include assistance in job search skills)
I - integrate (bringing all results and information together in a clear manner. This step is foundational in that this can become your map that you can refer to again and again for reference.)
T - transform (reaching your goals!)
Not all the steps may be relevant to you, and that's okay! As I mentioned earlier, how we work together will be dependent on your current needs. I am here to lend support and help hold you accountable to achievement.
